Re: Removal of Intercooler for Cleaning
I've written a guide to remove it now, based on how I did mine.
It is still being finalised and proof read by Bodsy, so is subject to change, but I thought it worth issuing now for any other comments too
The link is IC Removal Guide

Nice write up
One observation - it might be worth adding to coppaslip all bolts/screws etc when its put back together (and add coppaslip to the table of required bits)

Thanks John - I didn't lubricate anything - didn't look as if anything had been from new to be honest. And in reality the only bolts that really need any sort of lubrication would be the ones holding the metal bumper bar on.JF Lux wrote:Nice write up

Considering how much crud was behind mine, the amount of corrosion was minimal!
But yes, its something that I should have perhaps thought about

Re: Removal of Intercooler for Cleaning
Question to anyone:
Any idea what the plastic "air duct" actually does...? When I've looked at it, it doesn't seem to guide air anywhere.
I'm wondering if taking it off will help with cleaning rad and IC without having to dismantle everything...?

Re: Removal of Intercooler for Cleaning
I think what it does is to smooth the air around the back of the metal bumper and also direct the air through the IC - otherwise I suspect the easier path would be for the air to go up and through the radiators above.
What you can't see in my photo's very easily, is that there is a top to it, which closes off the air path from the slot in the bumper above the number plate to the radiators.
If you look at the first picture and the one at the top of page 13, you can see what I mean.
So, in essence, don't take it out - it will reduce the air into the IC.

Re: Removal of Intercooler for Cleaning
John - I wouldn't run without the duct.
To me it seems to act like an air 'scoop' - without it the air flow would be less directional.
