Corsica was very good. would do it again. Alex has changed his motor. He will be in the Hilux. Had a few up dates from him. Looks really well. Getting giddy at the thought of going away again. Will send you a PM over a few other things. Ferry etc..
Off to the 4x4 show in Stafford tomorrow so that should stimulate me even more. Should be a good day.

I'm looking to put my spares box together now, so this very useful info again for me.

And thats quite a list from Bodsy. But I wonder if I get my vehicle checked out and fully serviced for my trip, if everything there will be necessary for me to carry? And perhaps there might be other items to consider too?

My D3 is a 2008 MY is in good nick and only 18000 miles on the clock.

Although I will aim to get an LR service in Mongolia and on arrival in Australia. I would imagine that I will also carry a complete filter service kit and additional fuel filter.

I am very open to the general consensus of experience on this.

I think spares depends on what you're likely to need and your ability to repair it. By that I mean your own ability and what tools you're taking. For example there is no point in taking a CV joint if you're not going to have a 32mm socket for the hub nut.

Also depends on the terrain you're driving sand mixed with grease maxes a great grinding paste so bushes etc may get worn.

I would also suggest having a chat to Nick at Yeovil and explain to him what you're doing as he can probably arrange to get supplies to you should you need them. I would take:

CV joint, front and rear
Spare pads
Rear calliper (they are known to bind)
Alternator
Gaffer tape
Zip ties
Jubilee clips
A few random but and bolts
A multi meter
Spare fuses, wire and crimping tools
Ideally a small gas or 12v powered soldering iron
A fault code reader
A decent set of quality tools
Take an air jack not the crappy LR one.
A fold up axel stand
Some waffle boards might be sensible and will take up little space on your rack
Maybe sound ground pins so you can use your winch in more locations

With the zip ties, I'd suggest also getting some stainless steel ones - very strong as they use a stainless ball bearing as the ratchet lock, good enough to hold hot stuff like exhausts which obviously the standard nylon cannot, and they can also be used on CV joint gators if you don't have proper cv joint strap pliers.

Probably more useful than a jubilee clip. Where ca you source them from Dom?

I bought mine off a random trader off ebay. Not sure I'd put them in the strength category of a jubilee clip tbh; so a 30 cm/12" stainless steel jubilee clip or 6 would make very secure cv boot clamps indeed!

Don't forget to take a dead badger spade too; never know when you're going to have to move a badger out of your way. ;)
