Digital mapping, waypoints and how...

Post by JF Lux » Sun Jul 31, 2011 9:14 pm

Who would be able to give some remote help along the lines of a crash course in digital maps, GPS on a PC, waypoints, tracks etc (ie mapping for dummies...like me...) ?

I have mapping software; I have waypoint files (gpx format) loaded; I have a plug-in GPS receiver for the laptop; I have digital maps of the right areas...

Now how do I get the waypoints (loaded and visible on the right maps) to turn into a "track" so I can navigate on the laptop using the GPS receiver...?

More than willing to arrange a time and give someone a call if its easier over the phone (but not tonight...)

Anyone know how to demystify all this...?

Ian - playing with CompeGPS at the moment. Could use TTQV (TouratechQV - German package) which Charles is now using.

Haven't tried MemoryMap as that is sitting on a hard drive taken out of a broken laptop.

I'm pretty handy with memory map but happy to take alook at other software and advise if that's of any use?
