Hi Gang,
Like to share the last few weeks with you lot and a very exhausting Sunday.
This saga started at the end on November when I contacted Jason MacLeod who was selling an "Expedition Trailer". Now I use the words expedition trailer loosely and I come to this later.
After we had a verbal agreement on the price, I had to get a Nato Hitch bought and fitted, this was done over the Christmas and bought a roof rack for the trailer to fit my roof tent. The rack was in Peterborough and the trailer in Hastings and organised today for the jaunt from Merseyside.
First stop was the rack, nice guy and a decent brew that sealed the deal. Then off to Hastings.
The running gear was a wide track Sankey and told that had been prepped by "Uncle Ray" off another forum and I must say it was a nice job, new set of aftermarket Sawtooths with new tyres. Jason had fitted a couple of solar panels and batteries and started fitting it out with what looked like Wicks Laminate Flooring and owning a building Co. trust me he ain't no joiner.
But looking past that I could see potential with a strip out / refurb. Alas this is where things started going a bit tits up.
Through my thirties I worked for a company that built catering trailers and horse boxes up to 38 foot. So I'm well versed on GRP bodies & frame and ally skins.
So checking why the three doors on the trailer didn't close came as a surprise when it was the amount of corrosion to the framework that was stopping them from sitting in their frames properly.
I opened up the two roller shutters and the frame around them was non existent. Went under the Quadtech body and it was an absolute mess. Supporting steel was rusted through and the ally skin was flapping in the wind. One side of the trailer held up by the dried on mud, I had a dig about but kept pulling out orange dust. Apparently the body came from the forestry commission. He has self wrapped the outside of the body over the bolt heads and rivets...and whatever damage.
During our messages I asked him the condition of the box..... His messaged reply:
"Like I said it still needs fettling to a new owners choice. A little plate to be riveted in a couple of places but it's still good to go and ready to carry on a build of your choice."
To get the box structurally correct would mean a full strip out to expose all the rot to what ever's left of the frame and a few days work for a decent welder.
So in his kitchen I offered £2600:00 he totally refused and said it will stored and re-advertised in the spring. When I threw the offer in, I thought if he accepts, will the poor thing make it back up to Merseyside without coming apart.
Some six hours after I left, he messaged me again and then blocked me....
"I didn't appreciate your offer today. I turned down better offers because you got in there before Xmas. To offer me what you did was a "Chancer" offer and I would never had sold it for that.
I have lowered my eBay listing and listings elsewhere. To anyone that offer 2800 it will be there's. It'll take £300 to rectify, and I'll will have lost £1k nearly selling at that price.
Thanks for coming, but I can do without people like yourself wasting my time"
Now this pressed my buttons, I left home at 6AM and landed back at 11:30PM. Add to that 630 plus miles, two tanks of diesel, roof rack & Hitch and I've wasted his time.... Shame he didn't voice his opinion face to face.

Now at 97 comments,
And our old friend posting as Jason Conrad Bennett for some reason.
Got all stroppy, belligerent and has left the group now.
