Re: How to, Retro Fit an Active Rear Diff
You could be right Ian; I thought it was more of a servo system with a motor driving a wormgear/gearchain to load the clutch so would remain at the set level when power was removed but I'm happy to be wrong

Re: How to, Retro Fit an Active Rear Diff
it is a motor as you explain, but I thought removal of power released the locking ball bearings back? Unless we want to take one apart to find out! But the simple test of turning it as before will find out.

Re: How to, Retro Fit an Active Rear Diff
Well much as I'd like to take one apart, I'm afraid I don't have one on mine so I can't get my hands dirty.
Your point about turning the axle is valid though

Re: How to, Retro Fit an Active Rear Diff
Will all depend on ratios for the physical fitment at least (My be a different design I don't know!) - but the ECU is unlikely to work as they have different comms protocols on the D4 compared to the D3.
