Its my intention to get a club gathering together and venture oversea's at some stage next year :o .

Speaking with JFLux he has recommend us going to Durler in Belgium and sample a weekend of B&B/camping and play/roadbooks:
Durler is a weekend event in Belgium (with camping available) which happens in May and is exclusively for Land Rover. It covers forested and open tracks in the Berg-Reuland area which is where Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg meet in one little corner.

The best bit is the road book. It takes a minimum of 6 hours to drive in areas especially opened for this event. The guy who organises it knows who to speak to (and who to pay!). On the Sunday, the road book is reversed so it can be done again. The road book is varied and challenging in quite a few places. It really gives you the chance to travel for the day and use your D3. It is non-damaging and there is a small off-road play area as well which can be challenging...

Depending on how long people wanted to come for we could arrange sightseeing tours and so on. And a BBQ at my place (weather permitting... )

My thinking is to make this a long weekend trip. Friday and Sat are on the roadbooks / play site so perhaps travel on the Thursday and come back Monday/Tuesday. The date is not fixed for 2011 yet but I am told it will be mid to late May - so maybe there is a half term around it will be a family trip, or just a blokes trips - all can be decided anyway.

Thought if people are interested they could put in their diaries and leave it open :thumbright:

Sign up added to be kept informed :thumbright:

well I'll be going anyway...but I've posted my sign-up as part of the "club" thing... :thumbright:

Cost in 2010 was 70 euro for 2 nights camping, use of play site and registration for road book. On top of that there was a 50 euro returnable deposit on the road book. This was considerably more expensive than prior years but reflects the cost of access (eg. at one forest exit there was a commune/council cleaning lorry constantly washing and brushing the slippery mud off of the road - a prerequisite to being allowed to hold the event).

Camping - tents and tintents. But facilities are limited as it is not an official campsite (ie no massive toilet blocks). Portaloos and running water is laid on. (Just to make you aware).

Food/drink - they run a BBQ in a small cabin on the site on the Saturday (Never attended it so don't know if that is included in the cost or not). The cabin is open all weekend for drinks, coffee etc and I believe breakfast (croissants, rolls etc) are also served.

There is always the Belgian equivalent of a burger van on site - but it is fresh frites, sausage, frikadel etc...so a damn sight better than that UK muck... :rasp:

And there are numerous cafes (as in beer and food) dotted all over the place.

Fuel - from Luxembourg about 10 minutes down the road for the cheapest in Western Europe.

See you next year... :thumbright:

John,

So do you need to camp / be on site or can you do what you will and just turn up for the days?

Thinking if the on site set up is not great, if the swmbo's come they might want a little more. If it does turn out to be guys then we can do what bears do...

Anything good local where we can set up?

To answer Neil's question (and add clarity) - on-site camping is not required.

I don't camp - just drive up each day. Some of the Lux LR club do camp overnight (even though some of them live only 15 minutes away... )

There are several small hotels (country village style) within the region.
