Discovery Sport as a tug
Discovered that this loaner Disco Sport had a towbar. so it seemed a shame to waste it.
Not a bad tug to be honest. It didn't struggle pulling our van. Gave 23 mpg which I actually think is unremarkable given the fuss around the Ingenium engine. I get that from the FFRR quite easily.
Anyway, no pics, didn't happen so here you go....

Yeah, it seems the Taliban can upload videos form the mountains of Afghanistan but Vodafone can't manage a simple photo in Oxfordshire.
Maybe a week or two for the car. Be glad to get out of this thing. Strong it may be but comfortable it certainly is not

I wondered what vehicle was on you swmbo face ache page. 23mpg is better than my tdv6 did with your van and a seized caliper

Re: Discovery Sport as a tug
I guess a FFRR isn't going to be working as hard as the DS to tow the tintent. I've got no idea what mpg I get when towing but the D4 toes better than my D3.

Re: Discovery Sport as a tug
I don't think having so many gears helped it TBH. 9 is just too many, it always seems to be in the wrong one.
I think if I could be bothered to shift manually it would do better, oh and the fuel tank is smaller than a coffee mug. I nearly did a Clive. Figured half a tank should get us to Witney with the van.....light came on just before Oxford. Filled up to the brim again and it took a whole 48 quid.
EDIT. Trip home was better on fuel. I used the paddles to hold the higher gears longer but it won't take 9th at 60. Mostly running in 7th and 8th. 31mpg but we did have a hoofing great south-westerly up our jacksie on the trip home. Numb bum too, for an HSE it's like sitting on a park bench.

Re: Discovery Sport as a tug
9 does seem alot - especially if it keeps swapping them around.
My BM has 8 (Same box I think as the D4) and does seem to be always in the right gear - or at least pulls very well in whatever its in or changes very quickly if needed. The only time it seems to struggle is if you stick it in ecopro mode - when it tries to keep the revs well down - it then tells you how much fuel you are saving - and even when to lift off and coast - but then does less battery recovery charging!
But back on topic, the rig looks quite good to be fair - possibly a bit big a rig for the car - but not as daft as my BM with my twin axle would look! (Not that I've got a tow bar!)

Re: Discovery Sport as a tug
I am getting 27.5 mpg out of the D4 when commuting, which drops to 22/23 when towing.
Not a ridiculous drop to be honest. Today was interesting on the way home. Weather wasn't severe by any means, but it was the worst I have been out in so was a bumpy ride none the less.
We need to arrange a club camping and caravan weekend now there are quite a number of takers.
