Oh dear

Post by Stu » Thu Jun 02, 2016 4:57 pm

Well..... It's not good news. Mrs Stu has decided that we need a Tintent / mobile poo box.

I'm obviously thrilled by the idea. The only thing that I find appealing is that she has said she would then consider going away for weekends all year round.

So what do I need to look for? What's good bad etc makes to buy and ones to avoid.

I'm not saying we will have one but I will now have to look. I'll probably still camp though.

Depends.

If its for all the family - which I'm guessing is the case, then you need a big, probably twin axle, 6 birth. Or a 4 birth and an awning so you can camp in it :thumbright:

I hate showers over the toilet, so we have an end bathroom.

My advice is to seriously decide how often you will actually use it - we don't use ours nearly enough and as many have said on here before, could have had some very nice hotels for the money - that said, you can't beat your own space and if you are on CL sites, peace and quiet.

Mark, I'm guessing Mr and Mrs Stu won't want any more "Births"

6 Berth, agreed. The bigger the better really. Even the biggest are small compared to a house and the only reason I would go smaller is if my towing car couldn't pull a big one.

Look at it another way Stu, a decent awning is an experience like erecting a tent, can be slept in, it's great for lounging around, most can have the sides zipped out during the day to make a sun canopy (good for Gingers) and so on.

As for makes, you don't always get what you pay for.
Bailey are quite cheap but solidly built. Good value secondhand. Common so spares are readily available.
Elddis are OK but not the best built. Buccaneer are the posh version. Had one and wouldn't have another.
Swift are good but go for the top models. The basic ones feel cheap inside.
Coachman are very good but heavier than average to tow. They also have a price premium over others.
Vanmaster, hmmm. Very posh. Gone bust loads of times but a nice van. Used to be VanRoyce. Well regarded but spares are an issue.
Anything continental with the door on the wrong side is a PITA.
Avondale were nice. Went bust and spares are a problem now. Same deal with Fleetwood.

If you want to borrow mine as a tryout you would be most welcome. It's a Coachman 26 foot, twin axle, 4 berth. :thumbright:

checked the date, not first of april.
Is there another wind up day I don't know about?

I would say I am speechless but we are talking caravans.

We are Coachman fans.
