I have a brake piston retraction clamp from machine mart, cost about £10 but is over twice that now

I've seen something similer on Ebay - and even they are £18 or so.

Might get one for the next time. Thanks J@ames :thumbright:

I use a big screwdriver tbh if I can't be arsed to get a retraction tool on.

A big screwdriver between the pad and the disk (only do it this way when I'm changing disks btw) it keeps the pad square against the piston so it goes in square.
Plenty of brake cleaning spray first though just to get the crud out.

Once the pads were out, ISTR I used a small offcut of wood and a G Clamp to push the pistons back squarely.

I use a plumbers adjustable pliers all the time. The long handle allows gentle and progressive power to open the caliper piston. Been doing it this way for years without the need of a retraction tool.

I use a wolf craft trigger clamp now, but have used pump pliers and g clamps with similar success.
