Hello Body’s,
I need a bit of advice, my Discovery keeps on bringing the light to check break pads. I checked last week with my mechanic at our hospital in Northern Uganda (yes this Land Rover lives all the time off the road! Sometimes when I go to the capital Kampala we spoil it with some nice tarmac like one every 9 weeks). All the pads are still fine, we cleaned the sensors, checked the break fluid all looks fine. We also checked if the cables are sitting secure which is the case. Any advice what to check?
Thanks
Einhard Engelbrecht St. Kitizo hospital Matany

The only thing I can suggest is the sensor cable is damaged somewhere along it's length.

Do you get the displays telling you to check brake pads as well as the light ?

Also, what colour is the brake warning light?
If I've got it correct, it's amber for brake pad sensors and red for the brake fluid level sensor :thumbright:

Einhard, is your a Base model without the LCD display on the dashboard? It only has error lights, so would need to perhaps post a pic. :thumbright:

I would be looking to double check that there are no other shorts in the cable.
If you disconnected the cable and connected a continuity test on the connectors, is it open or closed circuit.

Yesterday we used the brake bible to change the front discs, pads and brake sensor. The only issue we came across was refitting the calliper as the pistons where out. I managed to get hold of a square piece of metal and a 4 " G Clamp, we undid the top of the brake fluid reservoir to aide the pistons going back in.

Bodsy's Bible is good aint it, dead easy to service the brakes following that. I find that plumbers wrench pushes the pistons back as well......but I must invest in a retracting tool next time.

I'm sure the bible tells you to retract them before removing the pads doesn't it? That way you can just use a screwdriver to lever the pads back and keeps the retraction straight. But well done for working around it. :thumbright:

Now for the rears then....

Problem with using a screwdriver whilst the pads are in place Ian is that you can apply undue pressure on the disc which could fracture or crack. Something to be aware of.

How big is your screwdriver Jase   :thumbright:

Tbh when replacing disks as well it doesn't make any difference. You'd have to put an awful lot of pressure on to crack one of these disks.

Perhaps mine would be too big. Just a practise I wouldn't adopt again as its open to the only errors on a brake pad change.
