Park brake fault - won't apply

Post by Julio-Disco » Wed Aug 11, 2021 12:46 pm

Hi all,

We had just arrived on holiday on the IOW, when the parking brake had a hissy fit whilst manoeuvring or caravan onto its pitch.

When operating the switch, the brake does not apply, & I get an Amber flashing brake warning plus a solid red brake war ing, & the (helpful) message "parking brake fault).

If I switch off & remove the key, the brake auto applies OK. I'm a bit concerned about towing the van home though using this method of applying the park brake!

On the island til 21st, hoping for a reprogram sensor fix, or recommendation of a mechanic on the island that can sort it.

Any ideas? It's a 54 plate disco 3.

Is it a manual? I assume it is as you have auto apply (Which auto's can do but not as standard from the factory)

You could always bypass the auto handbrake until you get home (I think you hold it down when turning the ignition off?) and just leave it in gear when you stop.

But I'm afraid I don't know of anyone on the island that could help.

Thanks Mark,

Not sure I'd be happy with a hill start towing the van!

Thankfully however, last night it seems to have self rectified. Here's hoping it stays fixed til we're home.

Oh & yes it's manual, would have been useful info to have included
