Water ingress passenger footwell but NO sunroof??

Post by TerMac » Sat Oct 17, 2020 4:28 pm

Ok so I’m fairly new to this forum but I really need help. I have a Disco 3 with no sunroof yet my passenger footwell is flooding with water. I have done a hose pipe check and can’t see any water getting through door or window seals. My local Land Rover specialist had a look and said they can’t see although I think they fobbed me off. Sometimes when I open the rear passenger door water floods out. The passenger footwell wall (bulkhead) seems dry so I don’t think it’s getting in through windscreen. It’s definitely coolant and because I have no sunroof I am at a complete loss. Can anyone help please? Thanks. Ter

Pollen filter is a common spot - also the windscreen side trims - has the screen been replaced recently?

Just read it again and you have said coolant. If that is the case, then the heater matrix has to be a prime candidate. Before you go down the route of replacing it (Which is a huge task!) then make sure it is really is coolant. Smell test should confirm it. Just don't drink it!

Thanks Mark. Over the last two days I have pulled the carpet up, removed all trim and sealed the windscreen with silicone. It is still leaking but I have now found where it is getting in and it is rain water. This morning I removed the battery and the void behind the battery was full of water. I pulled the long pipe out and the water then drained so looks like this was my issue. I am not sure where the long black pipe/hose is supposed to connect to though at the top? I will try and out a photo up on here so any help is hugely appreciated. Thanks

Full of water. I took the black pipe out and now it drained. But where does pipe go back?

Ignore the yellow hose. The water pours in at the top left of the footwell. Not now I have emptied the water from the engine by the battery.

Pollen filter is in the glove box at the top from memory - should be a tab you slide left/right to then give you access to it.

Good afternoon,
I have a LR3 2007 and also had water collecting in my passenger footwell area. I read some posts on here and one mentioned water in the battery compartment. My AC hasn't worked since I got the car so was not convinced it would be the outlet drain of the AC.
Well, it was exactly that, the route cause was the rubber seal that the bonnet sits on when closed had come away, therefore rain water could run straight into the battery area then down into the footwell. Adjusted and re-sealed, job done.
Thought I would share this as it was a very quick fix thank god.
