I have a Discovery 3 HSE TDV6
Over the last 4-5 months I have noticed the typical black smoke problem when applying accelerator. There's a mild misfire/loss of power and plumes of black smoke. To prevent vehicles behind me swerving violently into the ditch, I select very low gears to keep the revs up which minimises the issue.
After taking advice, I ordered an EGR blanking kit. When I came to fit it, I realised it had already been done.
I read more, and took more advice and decided to check the intercooler hoses. To my delight the offside upper hose had a split it it. I taped up the split to see if this fixed everything, but still I had plumes of black smoke. I ordered a set of pretty blue replacement hoses from Britpart and replaced all three intercooler hoses. But still I have black smoke, however it is not quite as severe.
What is step 3?
Cheers in advance.

Re: Smoking Gun - Step 3
Get your codes read is the next step I would say.
You could also check to make sure the butterfly has been removed from the air intake box.
Could be all sorts - injectors for one. Or turbo.
