Well it's all a bit crappy. On the plus side at least you managed to get to me and sort my remote heating out!

Sorry can't think of anything useful to say. I know the sickening feeling and feel for you mate.

Maybe the club needs to buy a spare D3 for members to borrow!

It's not good Ian and I really feel for you.

Only sorry I can't help. :(

Whilst the BMW is not perfect by any means (Can't get as much stuff in it that's for sure) - I do sleep easier at night knowing that I'm at least covered by warranty again and hopefully a more reliable car. Though I'm sure I'll be back one day. Though I keep looking at Series 2 and 3's

Whatever you do will be right for you. :thumbright:

Changing now means you won't recoup that cost - I know you never will, but you at least have the option to gain some value out of what you have done if you can get it back on the road again
You're pretty much spot on there Dave, that and the fact that the cars been through so much with us, we really don't want to get rid.

New engine, HPFP (as I don't want an old one in the new engine as it's covered 232k miles) and gaskets bits etc is going to be £8k plus whatever my local garage charge me for fitting or letting me use their lift. It's a significant lump into a 10 year old car.

I know that I could fit a second hand engine, but I'd never rely on it and most of them have already done 100k miles. Not for me really.

I also know I'll never ever get the money back that I'm investing in it, but if I spend that money on an early D4 I'd still be in the territory of having to have all the bits done that I know will wear, bushes etc. At least I know when and what's been done to this.

A stint with a van, may well get me using a small combi van instead for travelling around and keeping the d3 for weekends and holidays caravan etc. It's an option for the future anyway.

Will update on progress as I start going round breaking the kids piggy banks open

You're on the money there Ian, that's why I ran the Skoda. It makes keeping a Land Rover easier and give you some resilience both ways when stuff breaks on one or the other.
