Reverse camera image brightness
Ok, got a strange issue with a D4 reverse camera.
I fitted an aftermarket reverse camera to a 2014 D4. (The one with the tailgate light, HIDS4U CCD version)
Wired directly through to the screen.
Enabled and all working fine, image is good and appears when in reverse as it should be.
But then the image starts getting lighter as if there is too much light or sunshine etc.
At night time, it gets much worse when the lights are on.
We agreed to change the camera for the LR camera as I thought it may be light leakage through the aftermarket camera.
The LR camera does a very similar thing although not as bad as the aftermarket one. It just seems to be trying to compensate for being too dark and therefore is too bright to be able to see much of the image clearly.
I've fitted many of these in both d3 and d4 and its left me a little stumped to trace the cause of the problem.
If the signal wiring was suspect, then you would lose image quality, that's not the issue, the quality of the image is fine. It's the brightness that means you can't see more than about a foot behind you once it's started adjusting its own brightness.
Has anyone else experienced this issue before or have an idea or heard of any other TSB's as I couldn't find any related to this.

Re: Reverse camera image brightness
I have noticed this, but its not regular. I've always put it down to the camera coming on when there it is slightly in shadow but quickly moves into bright light and therefore it has overcompensated the exposure...or am I expecting too much cleverness from the reversing camera...?

Re: Reverse camera image brightness
I have had some issues with cheaper cameras allowing their own IR illumination in at the lens, and that causes a kind of whiteout. Cold weather and fogging (usually from inside) make it particularly bad until it warms up.
Have you removed the peel off lens protecting strip?

Touch Screen Display Overexposed When Reverse Gear Is Selected
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Discovery 4 / LR4 (LA)
Model Year:
2013
VIN:
652215-699715
MARKETS:
All Except Japan
CONDITION SUMMARY:
noteNOTE: This condition affects low line camera systems, fitted with reverse camera only.
Situation: A customer may report a concern that the Touch Screen (TS) display image for the rear camera appears to be too bright (overexposed) intermittently on the selection of the reverse gear. At the next vehicle start up cycle the image has returned to normal brightness.
Cause: If reverse gear is selected immediately after the engine is started, and before the home screen has appeared on the TS display, the screen back light will automatically use a default maximum light level regardless of ambient light levels. This results in the reverse camera image appearing too bright (overexposed). Suggested Customer Concern Code JH5.
Action: Should a customer express concern, follow the Service Instruction outlined below.

Re: Reverse camera image brightness
Hi all. I know this is an old post but did you ever sort this? I’ve fitted a genuine camera to my 2014 discovery 4. Bought the loom from land rover. When reverse is selected it’s really bright and poor quality. I’ve bought the newer camera and canbus tailgate loom and fitted that today. But found the newer camera to be exactly the same! Did the tsb fix this or did you find something else? Thanks in advance.

Re: Reverse camera image brightness
Thank you is it a dealer thing or do say aftermarket diagnostics do software updates? Thanks

Re: Reverse camera image brightness
Hi thanks for that. What module would I ask for updating if I booked it in at land rover?
