Ultra Light Weight Roof Tent Set Up

Post by brummiedeano » Sun Oct 06, 2013 2:24 pm

The guys @ Peterborough had an early look at this but I've made a few enhancements since then and now I'm happy with it. I've always liked the idea of roof tents but don't like having a lot of weight and bulk up on the roof so opted for another solution for overland trips :

Take one Smart Tent :

Remove the legs :

Build some mounts to fix the remaining tent structure on my roof rack :

Build 2 other roof rack mounts to attach the straps at the front and rear of the tent :

Mounts attached to my roof rack :

That's a ideal solution for the single person, or up n personal with the fellow occupant  . Seems a lot of hardware going on the rack Dean, which I know can handle it but I'm thinking more of the resistance and noise.

Ingenious idea on the mounting build though.

Nobody got to see Deano get in or out of it. I think he was staying in the hotel over the road!

The tent looks very much like the one Wazza brought to the Pyrenees - he didn't use it either and slept in the car. Shame really as we were looking forward to see how he would get into it.
