£140 to cross a few miles of water. Outrageous. I knew it wasn't cheap, but that is shocking

It only takes abut 10 mins to whiz across in a RIB or Jet Ski. It's shocking that they can get away with it. It used to be cheapest from Lymington, not sure if it still is.

From what I've heard Southlands is a good place. There are also a few others that are too, depends where abouts you want to stay and what your looking for.
As regards to the ferry, the reason being its more expensive mile for mile compared to the rest is something to do with operating costs and the fact they can only carry small amounts of people compared to the rest.
But still yes it can be expensive especially as its peak season, and if you live over here and you want to come across to the mainland as we don't get an islander discount.

But the Island is definitely worth it, especially if you know a local ;)

Very true Neil, but I guess when people see me picking Leo and Phoebe up one handed they don't consider me that disabled.
Anyway off to the Fighting Cocks Pub! Hope the name of the pub is nothing to go by!
