Sandy Balls, New Forset (Fordingbridge)

Post by Neild » Tue Oct 26, 2010 7:55 pm

Just back from a few days in the New Forset with friends

Image

This was our Super Pitch, with Water (Fresh and Waste), EHU and TV Point.

We stayed at Sandy Balls http://www.sandy-balls.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; near Fordingbridge for 3 nights. It's a good site that has a shop, 2 resturants and an indoor/outdoor pool complex. You could really keep yourself to yourself or get stuck into 'resort' type things. We opted for a bit of both.

We visited:
Moors Valley Country Park: http://www.moors-valley.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Bournemouth Beach, Funfair and Gardens

Would recommend but be selective of pitch and also maybe avoid the high season

It's a nice site but it can be busy and a bit too commercial for me. Pool is good though. What cost per night are you down to now.

That's why I wouldnt go peak season. Was very quiet when we went. I can see kids running around AWOL till very late in the summer holidays :?

Cost per night was about £50 :thumbright:

We stayed at the New Forest Showground camping site this year for 8 nights (Long meadow campsite) and it was practically empty, about 6 other outfits out of 100 pitches!

Really basic, even the showers and washing facilities are in porta-cabins!

Can't beat it!! £20 a night with electric hook up for our tent (we are "glampers") 8-)

£50/night!! I thought caravaning (or whatever the non pikey term is) was supposed to be cheap!

Blimey, makes Marina's look cheap. Maybe the floating caravan is not so expensive after all!

Off Roading is OK.... But I'd rather be Boating!

I worked out that before camping site costs, it is about £100 a night. Tjat is based on 28 nights a year. So your looking at around £120 a night.

If you only do 14 nights, clearly it is £200 a night plus site fees.

It's only cheap in older vans with little depreciation.

My tent costs about £5 per night so far. Obviously that cost will just go down. I suspect my small 2 man tent is down to around 20p

Andy is spot on, owning and running a tintent is not a cheap option! - would say its more of an expensive hobby than a holiday vehicle!. We had many reasons for buying a van, mostly to explore much of this wonderfull country we live in, without staying is rubbish cramped hotels that cost a furtune (Yes, we are picky as to where we would stay, you wont find me in a £40 B&B I'm affraid) .

SB is not everyones cuppa t and it is a bit different to the normal sites - but we wanted full on facilities for the kids, rain or shine, SB gave us that.

My normal preference would be a country site in the middle of nowhere with full EHU/Waste/Wate with bike permitted and a little play area, normally around £20 per night. TBH £15 or £25 per night makes little difference to the affordability of a tintent.

Some people were camping but boy did they look miserable and cold!!!!!
