Northern France Road Trip

Post by Neild » Sat Aug 02, 2014 9:41 pm

Hi Guys

We are off to France week after next, Calais to down to Mont St Michel to Bordeaux and return via Paris.

We'd like to do a day or so on the war beaches / museums / general interest war. Can you recommend anywhere to go, Adam and Harry are now 14 and 9.

Also, any thing else worth a visit while there?

Neil

If you go to the D-Day beaches and area, then Point du Hoc is nice to walk around, there's a great museum in Arromanche and plenty of old gun placements to climb in and over :thumbright:
I would suggest reading up with the boys, about the areas you want to go. Then when you get there, it means so much more..... :thumbright:

Not necessarily for the kids but Rouen is a lovely town - apparently where Joan of Arc was executed, Monet painted the Cathedral more than 30 times and they have one of the oldest clocks in France dating back to 1389 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gros_Horloge.

We did it on the way to the Normandy beaches and it was well worth a day stop :)
