Caravan options

Post by Stu » Sat Aug 15, 2015 5:53 pm

I was a away for a few days in poor weather and have decided that the Icarus 600 isn't ideal for our use (as it is). I've looked for canopies and then seem to be as rare as rocking horse poo. So I am thinking of a new tent.

My current thoughts are to go for something modular.

Require the following features:

Need to be a 6 man.
At least one entrance that can be left open whilst raining to allow air flow in

Be able to be extended for longer use

Ideally have a way (side entrance) of attaching it to our small event shelter. (It doesn't need to actually attach but ideally provide some form of shelter between the two.

All the other normal stuff ie electric input, mozi netting, windows etc and separate inner tents.

Any suggestions?

Thinking of going inflatable and I'll only buy from a decent manufacturer.

Vango Diablo - but they don't make them anymore

Not small, but very good as separate rooms, central area and vestibule. This is the 6 man

We have the 12 man, which is the same but has 3 bedrooms instead of 2. Takes a looooong time to put up, but once up is great.

Obviously this post is no use whatsoever as you can't get them anymore.

Since when did Vango make toilets on wheels.

I do get the Van thing, but it's not for me. When the kids have left home and we can keep one on the drive and do as Nick and Maureen do, then maybe.

I really like camping!

Half the time I couldn't take a tintent where we camp or do what we would do.

I am after a modular camping solution as I want it to be flexible - you can't exactly scale up and down a tintent in the same way, other than adding a tent on the outside!

Amazing how the tintents need normal tents attached when they need more room!

Right, caravans are for lightweights and amateurs :rasp: If you are going the wheeled route then you need a proper house

It's not modular but I have a airbeam infinity 800.
Sleeps up to 8 with great indoor area and has a 'porch' to extend living space and allows an open door when raining
