Prospeed rack - pile of proverbial...
That's it... I knew I should not have followed the goddam sheep and get a prospeed. Its official - I've decided it really is a pile of sh1te if you want to load it up Unless you spend another fortune on all the cross bars and other bits just to mount a spare wheel and fuel can.
If you want to load up a few bits and pieces then it is (sort of) ok. But not if you want a full and varied load. I could get more on my previous rack and that was smaller by one third !
It is not really flat. Nor is it efficient in the available floor space. And I do not see the point on spending a bucket load of money on "XRS" accessories just to have them sticking up off the rack even higher And still not be able to utilise the entire load space
Expect to see it up for sale at some point later this year...
FrontRunner...knew I should've got a FrontRunner...

Is that the new new racks or the previous generation? I haven't used mine in anger yet, but have seen the cost of accessories :-/
I have a custom (from Steve) spare wheel mount. All I need to do is make a mating plate as the holes on the wheel mount don't align with the rack

I find mine ok - but then I don't pack the amount of :censored: on mine that John does - and that is the point, it is meant to carry alot of :censored:, but it shouldn't be necessary to buy a rack for, what £1k and the spend another £500 to make it work.
I've bought the awning brackets - which were about £80 - its a lot of money for a few bits of bent metal. Mass produced they should be 1/2 that - but they are made to order.
I must admit the spare on the roof is a challenge to secure - and John is right, its not flat.

John, I've got a nice compact flat rack that I'd be happy to swap for yours....

Re: Prospeed rack - pile of proverbial...
Must admit - that Big Country that Roger linked to looks rather nice. At least the support slats are longitudinal (which the FR is not) so should help a little bit with the noise.
But the FT has some good extras like brackets to load flat gear (eg tables, waffle boards) under the rack...
And no Ian - I do not want to swap...
