So I did an oil change the other day and found metal bits in it So engine needs pulling out and looking at (preferably before it goes bang ) and will at least need a rebuild. But with other engine swap options available should I rebuild it ? A TDV8 is a viable option as Mike Park has proven but so is the Wiseman BMW M57 swap, but for either of these conversions I'm at the Diy end of the budget scale.
The mechanics of an engine swap are relatively straight forward for me and as my disco is a manual its all that much easier sourcing clutch parts. The biggest headache for me is the wiring. What ever engine option you choose I'm guessing that you would have to use an ecu designated for that engine. Would I be right in thinking that if I where to get the replacement ecu re-flashed with the necessary security promps that it would in theory work other connection need to be made to integrate the eco but thats a case of defining wires and mating them up.
So does my theory hold water or am I over looking something else.

Re: BMW M57 conversion
I think you are best asking Mike or Wiseman?
Bodsy may know - but not 100% sure!
