servicing?

Post by Mikebunn » Thu Apr 23, 2015 5:49 pm

Hi, just bought a 2005 D3 TDV6 S 101,000 on the clock............love it!
.It has full service history from LR and laterly an Indi specailist. Bought it from a garage and the guy said he had changed the oil and filter.....having looked underneath it doesnt look as if the cover plate nuts have been taken off recently and it is not due for a service for another 5 k anyway.......I live in Deal, Kent . Does anyone know of and indi around here. I normally do all service work myself, and i would like to know if I should do it myself or is it better to get a specialist to do it? ...if so why ?......The car has had about £6k spent on it in the last year,( clutch, flywheel, brakes, bearings EGR values)
have been underneath and the fuel tank looks quite rusty.!!
Am going to brush off the lose stuff and wax oil it every where..... any tips or is this right thing to do?

thank for advice

Mike

Oil and normal servicing is easy enough. Sounds like you know enough to do that no problem. :thumbright:

it's possible that they used an oil extractor to get the oil out, but I'd personally be looking to do a proper drain to make sure nothing is left at the bottom.

Just make sure you dont use cheap oil filters as if they twist, it'll fubar the engine with the oil starvation.

Just be aware that the 105k is an expensive service - cambelt change.

Also if it's not been done then it should be now based on the age of the vehicle.

Thanks for your comments.......Cambelts where changed at 92000 along with all other fluids( coolant and brake). I think the guy said change cambelts at 100,000 or 10 years old. Did notice that each time the oil was changed it was flushed out as well. is this what Landrover reccomend?

Mike, cam belts are 105K or 7 years whatever is the soonest.

The service sheet doesn't mention a flush, so I'd suggest it is not a recommendation. Its not something I've ever done - just quality oils and filters. And make very sure the oil filter is correctly fitted.

Fuel tank is plastic, the rust will be on the bit of tin foil underneath.
Mice are more of a problem to your fuel tank than rust :thumbright:
