Having taken a break from evilly compiling a list of second hand caravans for MrsStu to peruse, I took a mooch around the BangGood site ready to spend some soon to be received paypal funds coming my way (hint hint Ian ;) ).

I discovered this little gem - http://www.banggood.com/A8-5_5inch-Car- ... 81799.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have to say it has me intrigued; has anyone ever tried one of these, or seen any reviews?

Bet half the functions don't work. :whistle:

I also liked the one comment about the chap taking them to court cos it fries the alternator - don't see how it can have done that TBH.

I had a HUD on my 535d and it was fantastic. The BMW one shows speed and sat nav directions but that was all that was needed and I really missed it when my next car didn't have it.

The CEO where I am has (or his last BMW did) HUD - I drove it quite a bit in Belgium at Spa and in Amsterdam a couple of years ago and loved it. Was also a bloody quick car :lol:

It was a fun car. My favorite moment with mine was doing donuts outside a logistics company's warehouse in Messe Frankfurt because they said the Audi driving experience that was happening nearby was squealing their tyres more than I could :-)

I bet he killed his alternator by connecting the +ve to the alternator sense light stud or something equally daft :lol: :lol: :lol:

I have to say I do like the concept, but am a little wary of the actual experience in case it's forty quid of :poo:

It's a great idea and I hope it works, I've tried a few iPhone apps that provide HUD type displays, using GPS for speed etc. I've found that for some reason the D3 windscreens seems to double reflect the picture. That is you get the refracted image from the external and an internal edge, I found this difficult to read as a result.

I'm presuming that as I have a heated element in the screen it is multi layered which is why this happens? (could be way off with that theory)

This double image has put me off any HUD type displays in the D3, but it could always just be my eyesight and they are ok for others.

I think the double image is the reflection from the inner & outer surface of the glass. From my "O" level physics from a good few decades ago.

I drove a 3008 some years ago with a HUD - and it reflected it onto a piece of "perspex" and not the screen itself - though the BMW uses the screen - presumably its been treated in some way - though it was all one colour from memory.
