What are the thoughts on this - I guess for on road recovery of normal cars, rather than off-road which I would use a proper shackle on.

I saw these a hill back & have in fact spliced my own to test
No tests yet due health issues but soon hopefully.
I have a couple of concerns...
The details mention a "Budget" product. When it comes to recovery gear & especially a low total value product like this,I don't think that budget is a concern.
There is also no mention of testing or rating, so how strong is it really?
There is also mention of speed of rig & de-rig. For me speed is not an issue.I want it done correctly not quickly.
Having said all that I do like the idea that a lump of steel (shackle) is replaced with a soft material.
When that type of product fails due to over load, in my experience, it fails at the splice or a knot or point of physical pressure e.g. winch hawse or fair lead.
Soft shackles have been used in the marine environment for a long time. They have their place, just not sure I am going to use it just yet.

According to the guy who's looking at getting some, they have a 3T SWL - which in his words equivalent to a 18t breaking strain when towing.
I have some small shackles, that I'd rather use on a normal car, for just towing, I think they are about 0.5-1t SWL - which is fine in the right application.

unless you are using a plastic hook on then you still have a lump of metal flying through the air so that is about the only advantage of the thing defeated. no true swl a splice joint so onceyou have used it once in a bit of muck you will have to bin it ... no ta

If the product is rated for lifting for a 3T SWL (which i doubt otherwise they would have said) there would probably be a SF (safer factor ratio) of 6:1 . I think this is how he is getting the 18T figure for towing.
Further research on David's site shows that a spliced 10mm Budget Bowrope has a breaking strain of 10,500 lbs. Not sure putting a big knot in it with enhance that, probably the reverse, IMHO

Ben - you don't have to have a hook for snatch recovery, and reducing the amount of hardware is a good thing. Even if you do have a hook in the system and have a failure it doesn't mean the hook will be going through the air.
I like the idea of a soft shackle, but I'd like to see some ratings and testing.
As for speed of rigging I'm with Nick but I can see that those people who like winching competitions would be keen on speed.

Ben, the thought on this is for normal cars and not Disco's - I would use a large shackle on mine and on a small one on a normal car.
