Where are you measuring the gap Gary? I only ask as the first thing I noticed when me and Harvoy put mine on were that they we much narrower than the Mk1 'angled' version. Now you mention stubby ones, so I measured the gap and its around the 50mm mark? Is it possible I've got stubby ones in error or is it that I'm measuring them wrong? Cheers

The new ones are definately narrower on the car than the old angled ones. Could be because they angle down a bit whereas the old ones come straight out?

Personally I prefer the older ones having seen the new ones in the flesh, but they'll still do a damned good job of protecting the car!
