I like the 7" HIDs that XTC has in NeilD's thread. Good price, too. Internal ballast solves a few problems, but think about how you want to fit them to the rack, especially if you are taking the cowling off. I'll email you a pic of that on Gareth's D3 on t'other side. :thumbright:

I think Al (NoDo$h) has taken the top off of his Expo rack. ISTR it needed the rivets drilling out, so might not be so easy to put back on should you want to. Although if you're careful when you drill the rivets out you could probably rivet it back on.

I'm thinking that I need some sort of floor for my Expo rack, somethink that will take someone (preferably me) standing on it. Not sure whether to go for Ply or some sort of Ali or Checker plate. I think ply wood would be easiest.

The ply would need to be 12mm WBP ply, or Marine ply to reduce delamination after the first bit of rain, they both would be plenty man enough on that thickness to take a persons weight and anything else that you want to throw on top. :pcwhack: :pcwhack:

Have a peep here for all things LED flashing... Not the cheapest by any means but pro quality.

I have the amber http://www.emergencyequipmentshop.co.uk ... p-265.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
fitted on my expo rack. very bright and you can easily sinc them up so very pretty!

I was looking at these for a LRE job as worklights, look really good & bright plus low current as LED but...... £130 each!

Worth going for LED hazzards and worklights if possible as you can leave them on for hours without the engine running. I have also had my roof HID spots on for 2-3 hours without the engine with no problems and only a single battery.
Cheers, Richard.

I've seen the EVS ones in action on the back of DiscoDunc's rack. In the daylight, they are incredibly bright. You know what they say about investing one in the best or twice for the rest.....

Having said that, I got some cheap Flashing LEDS (I just wanted the Static LEDS) and this was the best way to go about getting them :-) They were about £7 each. They are definately not waterproof and they mostly work, most of the time and mostly all work when they do... except the random LED's that don't of course.....

So, buy some EVS ones mega low power and you'll definately be seen! :thumbright:

The £35 durite led lamps are good but they are flood lamps so depends what you want the lights on the front to do??
If you want long range you need xenon spots really and led's for work lighting :thumbright:

ohh thanks for all the tips fella's :thumbright:

while i go through them i wanted to run this idea past you,

Re teh spot lights on the roof,,, they are SOOOOO expensive,,,, and they can only be used on the roof,,, i need them for getting our of the woods at night so to speak,, so flood is fine,,

but i was thinking that it is a little limiting to only be able to point the D3 in the direction if possible,

I've been recomended for council/ fire/ police emergency work,, this would mean climbing at night too,,,
so i was thinking of maybe two of the ones below,, on removalbe clamps,, then i can use them on the rack AND on tripods on the ground for climbing,, i can also get them cheaper,,

what do you think?

it's a fantastic torch, no doubt aboiut it, but a) you have to hold it (or fashion a clamp of some sort) b) the power will fade relatively quickly at full power c) is it the tree you want to light up? or is it the cutting area?

I guess you've probably got a Petzl or similar, but really get yourself the ledlenser head torch as well or you can also get a xenon headtorch with seperate belt battery pack.

Or you could just get a small generator and some 500w floodlights. These jobs don't always taek a couple of minutes, so maybe best with a small i20 suitcase genny. Very quiet & probably can be bought for less than the price of that x21!

there's a clamp,, designed for tripods,, the police use them instead of large spots. for lighting up buildings,, i'd still have one of the many petzls i own on me,, but the police will actually want the area light too,

as for driving,, it's for getting in and out in the dark,, off the beaten track,, i get what you mean re battery life though,, that's a pain as i could get these for WAY cheaper than all these spots are coming out at..

have seen the EVS ones in action too,, just didnt want to spend a load of money on something that really isnt a priority,, to be honest,, i'm jumping through a council hoop...

but the lighting IS a priority,,, as is the split charge,, which hopefully arrives tomorrow,, i guess you'll be wanting an installation thread a la mactool :tumbleweed:
