Ken, even with the hole there to get access to the plug, don't you think the oil will just spill out over the inside of the plate unless the hole is Mahoosive?

The OEM part doesn't have a hole.
You need a hole around 65mm diameter to get access and stop the oil from pouring inside the plate. 65mm is also just the right size for a tree root to get inside.
We can put the hole back though :thumbright:

OK - so why does the others have them in? Have there been any reports of tree roots going through?

I just find it a pain to remove the sump plate just to change the oil every 5k.

Maybe it would be possible to put a removable plate 80mm or so over the hole?

With regards oil going over the inside of the plate, it's only the last few drips that don't drop straight out so I can live with that.

Gary - I guess the OEM part doesn't have the hole because it would be an extra process to stamp in it out and since I guess most LR dealers 'suck' out the oil they don't have to drop and refit the plate.

But I am just a contrary old sod.......

Not asked or heard, was just our feeling that if a plate is protecting the sump, why have a 2" hole under it :?

Due to the fixings yes.

If you mount the OEM Sump Plate it will not site flush on the chassis - it will be rasied 8mm on the back to bolts, which will inturn make the other 6 bolts not site square or flush.

You could of course modify the front fixtures on the transmission palte but that would only leave about 50mm holding it on the front as aposed to 300mm.

I had been trying to work out from the pics why it wouldn't fit With a Mantec or other plate TBH and I couldn't come up with a reasonable answer......
