Bonnet Stay strut Clip

Post by anglefire » Thu Feb 18, 2016 8:38 am

During yesterdays work, we unclipped the bonnet stays and managed to loose one of the clips that holds the ball joint at the bottom of the stay onto the ball :headbang:

Don't suppose anyone has a spare clips lying around? - Its like a half moon thing - right fiddly things to get on. :lol:

I have a spare one somewhere in my wing where I dropped it...but if it ever turns up I'll put it back on the strut !

Lived without mine for over a year now; just have to remember not to touch it whilst I'm under there :lol:

Did you put the bonnet into the full vertical position? A great design feature of the car that's fitted on too few vehicles, but was much used on my 1990 Volvo too!

That's where one of mine is! :thumbright:

Yes, fully vertical - excellent feature - not used it before - I knew you could do something, but never really looked to see how. Bodsy showed me and it makes working at the back of the engine a dream - I used to take the hole bonnet off when I had the Defender. Climbed onto the engine to lift it out :whistle: :lol:

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know where I can get new bonnet struts from without paying main dealer prices?

Though these are tailgate ones, they should be able to sort bonnet ones out. The part number is LR009106 I think. :thumbright:

Stu

Have a look here http://www.albert-jagger.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They are in Romsey.

They do all sorts of goodies mainly for commercial vehicles, including gas struts.

Thanks Andy - might as well get them from Steve - just assumed they'd be £100!

A very small cable tie will help keep a strut in place until you retrieve your clips.
