Ebay

Post by countrywide » Mon Jan 06, 2014 12:14 pm

I just realised that Ebay charge a final fee on postage. I always list postage at cost price. It also says that your not allowed to increase the price to cover ebay fee's and costs.

I also notice that they offer a Royal Mail print and send option using your Ebay & PayPal account. I do know however that it is against a Post Office retailers contract to sell postage at more than it's face value (i.e you can't sell st class stamps for more than the current rate). Therefore as Ebay charge a fee on postage and then sell you Royal mail postage in the same transaction, they are effectively selling Royal Postage at more than list price.

Do you think I should mail them and ask how this is possible ?.

I would ask is it really worth your time and effort to email them?

It is purely as Ebay get away with a lot and it's all on their terms, so I think it's good to catch them out sometimes.

You won't get anywhere with them, they operate outside the UK so don't adhere to our so called rules. It's not worth the effort and if you don't like it then I guess you should'nt use them.

I've fully turned it all around, I sell and accept offers outside the auction. Saves fees and as they've ripped me off a few times, payback is a great feeling.

They are incorporated outside of UK but they do not operate out side of UK. I would think that each ebay entity within each country has to abide by local trading standards ? But you may be right as I'm not a Corporate lawyer...
