How do you handle death?
Ok, not a typical discussion for here, but some of you may know that my father has not been in the best of health. Thanks to 50years of cigareTte smoking, he's had enphacaema (sp?) for a while.
The last month has been particularly bad and after 76years of life, he sadly he passed away at 1.45 this morning.
I've never lost anyone close to me before, so I realLy don't know how to deal with it and wondered if There's anything anyone can advise?

Re: How do you handle death?
All I can say is sorry to hear about your father. I don't think there is any particular way to deal with it, it's a case of coping with it with the support of your family & friends.
I haven't lost anybody that close to me, so can only imagine how hard it is.
If you need or want to chat, then you have my number.

Thanks Andy, bit raw at the moment to be able to talk about it directly. Even though I expected it at some point, I was going to see him on Monday. Dads are one of those people that are always there...

Re: How do you handle death?
First thing to say, is that I'm really sorry to hear of the loss of your father.
I too have not had anyone that close to me pass away, and it's not something that I want to have to deal with for some time to come. But it might happen anytime as you can never be sure what is around the next corner.
So direct advice is not something that I can give, save to say that you have to deal with it in your own way.
That may be to sort all the paperwork out first and get all the things that need doing done, then grieve in your own way. That might be sat on your own in quiet contemplation, it might be going out and getting blathered.
Or it could be something different.
You will also have to be there for the rest of the family, your mother, wife and kids.
Likewise, you have my number. Call anytime you need to.

Re: How do you handle death?
I'm very sorry to hear that Ian. Take some comfort that if he has been suffering for the past few months that he's now in a happier place.
My Dad died just before Xmas of COPD which is much the same. He had spent the last few months gasping for breath and had no quality of life. We all loved him dearly but it was a genuine relief that we no longer had to see him suffer.
I assume your Mum is still alive from your comments so all your efforts will be focused on her and taking the burden of the Funeral etc. Don't rush anything, savour the honour of doing this for him. Be guided by the Funeral Director as they can take a lot of the pressure away.
Most important.... Make sure you buy decent Champagne for his wake!

No easy way to cope with a loss like that mate easy to say now but time helps. every one copes in different ways but I like to think that after a long illness at least your Dad is at peace, and he will always be with you in your memory, you got my number if I can help

Mate,
Really sorry to hear your news. I think Richard has got it right and he's just been through the same thing.
If there is anything I can do let me know. I'm happy to take photos of Neil abseiling if that would cheer you up?

Re: How do you handle death?
Now you mentioned it, yes it had developed into COPD.
He was fully mentally fit, but frustratingly couldnt do anything without oxygen.
He's definately in a better place now, however hard it is for us, we all know this really.
I have three brothers and three sisters, so between us Mum will get all the family support she needs. She's been putting off a hip operation as she'll be struggling for 6 weeks afterwards and didn't want to whilst dad was ill.
