I agree Del. Besides, me thinks he doth protest too much

Stu, you'll find that as you get older the idea of a warm bed, carpet all the way to the bog and a hot shower where you don't have to stand in someone else's shower dregs all become rather more appealing than the whole tent thing. And me ole mukka, like it or not you WILL get older. Just look at our dear brother Mr Bodsy. Even he succumbed so you've got no fekking chance mate. :thumbright:

I get the van thing but:

I don't want to pay to store it
I don't want it at home
I would want to be able to just hook up and go so that is a pita if you have to store it.
I also go to places where a tintent can't go
If you don't use it I think you start to count the cost - not the same with a tent.
We only tend to go away for weekends so it's a lot of phaff unless you have it ready to go.

I think Nick and Maureen have it right and they have a 4 bed can for the two of them with a fixed bed etc. so no making things up etc.

So maybe when I retire and the kids leave home it will work for us but it just doesn't work now and I actually like being in a tent. In fact I like sleeping without a tent and just the stars. Something about being close to nature. With a tintent you're removed from that and in your own bubble with heating, electric lighting and a TV. I'd rather have a Tilly lamp, a few good old stories and an open fire.

Isn't getting back to basics going to a 3 star hotel.

Storage where I had my sankey was £230 a year, gold star CASSOA site, peanuts in the grand scheme of things
Store it
Our storage was between where we live and the A1, about 5 miles from home - so plan where you store.
Go places where a tintent can go - there are hundreds of 5 up sites which are perfectly quiet and basic to get away from it all
If you go away a lot of weekends, then you get your moneys worth.
If you only go away for weekends then setting up a van is probably 1/10th of the faff of setting up a tent.

If I don't change my D3 in the next few weeks then we'll be buying one next year. :thumbright:

I have to confess that I never saw the point of a tintent but then we borrowed Phil's for the Hampshire spectacular last year and I just loved it. Now we have ours with the fixed bed and rear bathroom we really love it and hope to get to quite a few events this year.

We even went to the North Yorkshire coast at the end of October last year and it was great to be so lovely and warm. All four of us lived inside all week (it was far too windy to put an awning up) and we had no issues at all.

My point really is that until I tried it I wasn't qualified to say that I didn't want one but that's what I said anyway and I'm sure others have been in the same position (Bodsy included!). I do love being able to turn up, put the legs down and get the kettle on.
