Re: P017 Brake Recall, please read you may be affected!
Help!
Two months ago I bought a l/r3 (2006), (from a dealer, with full service history) and love it BUT on Monday I was reversing down my drive and the brakes went rock hard, I had no way of stopping car, and it ended up demolishing my neighbour's wall, damaging vehicle and me. Luckily, my two young grandchildren, who were in the car, seem unharmed.
I phoned the dealer, explained what had happened, and thy sent flat bed to collect it. They promised me they would inspect following day. In the meantime, I Googled merrily away, and found VOSA information that vehicle was included in safety recall (P017). Next morning I rang Landrover, explained what had happened, and asked for confirmation that my vehicle had had the necessary work done. She confirmed it had, in March 2010. When I explained situation, she said 'well, it wouldn't have happened again, so it must have been brake pads'. When I later asked her to put that in writing, she said she was unable to, as her opinion.
After chasing dealer we purchased from (Jefferies Farm, Unbeatable Cars) Tuesday (told they hadn't had time to inspect vehicle), Wednesday (told couldn't find locking wheel nut), they eventually phoned Thursday to say vehicle had been checked, nothing wrong with it, MOT'd, put on rolling road, and no problem whatsoever. They told me two of their technicians had checked it, along with independant assessor. They said I had to collect car (which I refused to do, as if problem happened again while driving, a)could kill someone and b)my insurance would be void.)
They agreed to return vehicle to my home - I requested copy of independent inspection (told would take at least a week) . Also asked for copies of their technicians' reports by return, which have failed to arrive.
I have copied all my emails to contact at Landrover. Am now at a standstill as to where to go next - I have requested part numbers to be included in report.
All I know is, I've injured myself, the car I've only owned two months has been damaged and needs repairing, and my neighbour's wall has to I am not prepared to claim on insurance (and because its mechanical failure, don't think I can, anyway).
Someone is accountable for this - can anyone tell me for a start whether this Servo problem could occur a second time? Is it likely to be under warranty?
Please help me.

I would strongly suggest that you contact someone like Douglas Wragg. He is a forensic engineer specialising in cars. It very much sounds like you have still got oil in the brake servo. You need to check to see if it looks like they have out new parts on the brake servo whilst they were doing their 'investigation'
You could also take it to an independant LR garage and the specific test is to check for oil in the brake servo pipe and in the brake servo itself.
There have been others who have had the first supposed check and then gone on to have the same problem.
I would take it up with the LR executive office, escalate it over the LRCS teams as they will continue to fob you off.

Hello,
Servos can fail and do so. Also the vacuum pump may have failed or partially done so. It would appear from your description that you have little or no servo assistance at the pedal?
The servo needs removing and examining first, if in doubt replace it. from there I would suspect vac pump.
Not sure where you are? If you want us to look at it and give you an opinion happy to.

If you get no joy, fill in a vehicle defect report on the VOSA website. I did that with the Mercedes brake issue which they refused to accept was not normal and Mercedes have been told to inspect it and report to VOSA.
You can do it all online. I have also heard several people have the brake issue even after the modification and it is not always constant. If you have the car back, find the connection in the vacuum pipe seperate it and check it for oil just so you can eliminate the problem.

Lisa, firstly welcome.
Now take the Disco back to Jefferies farm, ask to see the technician and show him this vacuum pipe
http://www.disco3club.co.uk/gallery/dis ... play_media" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Get Him to disconnect the quick release air pipe in the middle and get him to shake the pipe. Any trace of OIL means you're Vacuum pump oil seal has failed and you now have engine oil in you're braking system that causes you're symptoms.
This is a LR Recall across the range now, and LR recalled all years. You can tell if you'res was recalled as you will have extra pipes ontop of the engine cover Left side.
DO NOT DRIVE ANY MOR THAN NEEDED TILL THIS OIL IS CONFIRMED. Sorry to be so direct but had this happen to me on my old D3, the entire braking system was serve rely contaminated with engine oil. I had a NEW vac Pump and oil seal, new servo and brake fluid completely drained and replaced.
