Any update on Jamie's D3? Even if it's just to make Bods feel better.

Ian, i'll probably see you tonight, but incase I don't try talking to Chis at C&K Engineering (High Wycombe). They completely re-manufacture engines and have done quite a few for me back in my days of rally cars. The original guys are definitely getting on a bit now but the whole company (small) do top class work. I still recall a Ford Pinto block which wasn't quite straight and they line bored the mains and then made (made, not bought in) new white metal bearings which were oversized on the outside. That block was a 205 Cosworth bottom end, bored out to 2100cc and with twin 48's on it was giving 178 BHP. All their work.

Apologies for regurgitating a 2017 post in advance.
Had a similar ‘AA’ recovery situation back in April ‘19. Southbound in Tow up ‘Telegraph Hill, Devon and 17 miles from destination my D3 developed a knock.
Short wait and AA verdict was ‘bottom end, sounds terminal’ so we were towed to destination and car recovered back home.

We did a bit of research and had a brief exchange of email with the club and eventually had the car recovered to ‘Oval Autos’ - west mids.
Report not good - scoring on crank journals beyond a regrind tolerance; injectors tested and most are significantly under or over fuelling and need replacement; turbo is notchy and advises refurb .... so the list goes beyond simple ‘remain engine rebuild’.
We are definitely in the same place as Bodsy was - facing the cost of a (£7k) remain approach, knowing that we won’t recover the investment in any other way than just driving our D3 around a little longer.
We’re about to crack in with the remain engine rebuild but with only 3 years landrover experience behind me and little engineering knowledge, I’m a little nervous....

You’re rebuilding the engine yourself? Make sure you’ve done research on crank quality before committing as it may be cheaperbmore reliable to get a service exchange LR engine (currently £4K +vat)

To also add.... jflux had a top end issues with his and spent a considerable fortune rebuilding it. It’s now gone bang and a new jlr engine going in.

No. My Engine is with Oval Autos - for a remain engine rebuild.
