Oil Pump hosing and belts

Post by GavinB » Thu Jan 14, 2016 10:41 am

Long time no post have been crazy live. Cars in for a service today with the belts at a local land rover specialist. they have suggested that changing the oil pump casing is a good idea to prevent future failure (if it is the non beefed up version). what do people think? We are planning on keeping the car for a while yet as its only done 64K miles!

Great to hear from you Gav, happy new year!

The answer is almost definitely yes if it's before 2010, but which model year is your car?

Maybe Bodsy can weigh in with more evidence but as far as I know 2007 to 2008 had the worst oil pumps so definitely go for it.
If it's an indie make sure they read and follow the LR fitting instructions closely, it really does mean it when it say you must NOT lubricate the shaft when refitting the new pump plate...the new seal has glue on it as it rotates with the shaft and oil would prevent it sticking and sealing.

Mark sound like you need to get a motorway cruiser and stop using the D3!!!!

update the garage have had a look and the oil pump is already the beefed up version which is quite strange so they have recommend not to bother changing it. but I do need a rear wheel bearing and front lower are bushes!! warranty should cover most of them

202K on the clock now - was discussed on here a while back as I had that thought - but the numbers, ultimately, don't stack up.

If it's the beefed up version, then happy days. :thumbright:
However, I know already that mine is the beefed up version, but when the timing belt is changed in a month or so, I'll be having the oil pump case changed again. I've done 192,000 miles, so a new oil pump to keep the pressure up for the next 100,000 miles has to be worth it IMHO.

Gav, are they sure it's the final beefed up version and not one of the interim weaklings?
