Engine system fault Xmas tree light cluster

Post by Tam Augaitis » Sun Apr 12, 2020 1:25 pm

Can anyone help?
My 06 disco 3 will start and drive. I park up and switch off.
I try to restart some time later and every light on the dash illuminates and all programmes are faulty. Temp gauge high
Go back out the next day and it fires up first turn of the key then when I stop same thing again.
I took it out last week and never turned it off until I returned home and now it says engine system fault but will start and drive. I don’t want to risk going out and switching off and it doesn’t restart.
Can anyone offer any assistance. The garage can’t detect anything nor 3 different recovery drivers.

In all honesty, you need to get the codes read because anything else would be pure guess work!

Find someone with an IID tool or similar- depending where you are, Bodsy does get about a fair bit (normally anyway!)

The codes were reading to a dash fault? As identified by 1 recovery person but all other attempts to establish the fault have been unsuccessful. I have spent a lot on repairs over the years but I’m at my wits end.
No it states engine system fault but it starts and drives perfectly. If I hook up a code reader will this identify the exact issue?
Sorry if that sounds dumb but I’m not mechanically minded and I fear I been slightly over charged over the course.

Do you make a note of the codes? Some of the code readers can't delve that deep into all the ECU's - but I'd have thought a recovery company would have one that would.

If you get the codes read then in theory it will point you in the right direction - but you have to know the order of the codes as some can be cascaded and its actually only one that is important.
