I was thinking more of heating the water prior to using it - not on demand.

I would think 35-38 degrees would be the sort of temp you'd be wanting.

Would a 12v battery be able to hear say 20 litres of water? I thought the idea of say a container that could take 25 litres would be viable? Fill to 20 litres, use the 5litre space for air that would be under pressure to force the water out? I guess the compressor for that would kick in as pressure dropped.

These are just ideas, but I wondered if it might be possible to knock something up quite quickly and cheaply.

Indirect heating via FBH, that's what they use them for on boat. Use diverter valves and you can use existing circulation pump.

Wouldn't take long at full belt.

Or just buy a gas one for a caravan, you only need small inline 12v pump for the shower.

See above Stu - I used 30ltrs as an example - I wasn't suggesting instant hot water - but the maths still applies.

But a FBH - probably not the one in the car, but there are plenty about that will do between 5 and 10kW - so that would heat enough water in around an hour for a shower - and if it is on the roof of the car, it wouldn't need to be pressurised with a compressor - otherwise I would think you are in a whole world of pain with pressurised vessels etc - a simple pump - something like the one on the FBH possibly - thouh that is pulse width modulated, so a conventional 12v dc pump would be better.

So I could just buy a 12v shower and pump (£20 on eBay) and then I would just need to sort the heating out.

Gas heating or FBH sounds expensive though.

I've got a pump you can have Stu. Also check out cak tanks for a suitable baffled tank. They make hundreds of different types for all the various motor homes and tintents. Valves, pipework and sundries as well.

Richard, we all know Stu's a little 'different'. We're happy to have toilets and showers inside of a caravan in the warm. Stu wants to bolt all of his on the outside of his car.... I bet he'll scare the neighbours when he first tests it out
