Stu, many on here have sold their D3/4 and have regretted it; maybe not for the loss of MPG or recurrent hassles with EGRs but because anything else they got is not a D3/4 and they miss it, quirks and all.
How many people do you know that have sold up and then are looking for the opportunity to get one back?
The sensible head says sell it and move on; but the heart says it's family and it needs attention to bring it back to health.
Even if you're going to use Mark's sensible calculation, if you also used it as the tug for your tintent that would also prolong the life of your D4 and that in itself would pay for it would it not?

Re: What to do
Stu is in a different situation than I found myself in. He does still have a D4.
Yes I miss the D3 in so far as the BM is not a patch on it in many ways - but mine being my daily driver and around 25-30k a year it and on 234k when I sold it it was the sensible decision. (It would now be approaching 1/4million miles by now )
I'm not looking to replace it anytime soon - and I've had to hire a large people Carrier for our summer holidays as I can't (obviously) get 6 in the bmw let alone luggage as well.
I may look at the defender replacement in a few years - if it lives up to the hype.…

Re: What to do
I felt much the same when the Evante went puff last month.. Been and gone now, sadly we soon forget and move on to the next toy..! It needs to go! If you have a D4 sitting in the drive you will never use the D3.

Re: What to do
Maybe that's the right approach. Get rid of the Disco but use the cash for a new toy. No idea what though!!!

Re: What to do
Sort of disagree. Now I have a D3 that is the off-road vehicle for the hobby. Would prefer the D4 but have the D3 for a reasonxtc wrote:I felt much the same when the Evante went puff last month.. Re: What to do
I thought posting on here would be helpful but it's not being.
Maybe I need to allocate the funds I would get to an idea and that might make it easier!

Based on the last three years, how often have you been off roading to warrant a vehicle purely for that with all associated costs.Stu wrote:I thought posting on here would be helpful but it's not being.

Re: What to do
That's a reasonable question - I'd done about 5 trips off road in mine in the last 3 years - to be fair, they were Pyrenees twice, Poland once, Wales once and probably another - so probably more miles off road than most do! - but which was part of my logic for it going.
