What it is, is a very nice motor.

Same floorpan as Jaguar F-Pace I think but with LR capability. Although it allegedly sits between Evoque and Sport I would actually place it above Sport in the line up. It's much more aligned to the Range Rover Vogue, longer than a Sport and it doesn't look squat and muscular like the Sport, nor does it look like it's had a skip dropped on it like the Evoque. It does seem true to the FFRR lines and shape, just a bit smaller, but it looks "Elegant" which neither Evoque or Sport do. The same elegance which is synonymous with Range Rover since 1970. I actually think they've nailed it this time.

Many of you will know I've never considered Evoque or Sport as being Range Rovers, and I still don't. Opulence, elegance and sophistication don't go with WAG or Lager Lout types which those cars portray an image of, but this Velar has none of those rather vulgar qualities from what I can tell. It looks like a Range Rover, just scaled down a bit.

Air suspension is optional as far as I can see and also it doesn't appear to have a transfer box, just AWD. No 5.0 supercharged either, but a good choice of engines nonetheless. Trims are back to Base, S, SE and HSE. No Autobiography although I suspect it will come just as it has for others.

Just built mine on the configurator. £87k, which is almost identical to my D5 build and pricing. I know which one I'd have. And it wouldn't have 7 seats.

Oh, and the door handles look 8-)

That does look like a proper Range Rover to be fair :thumbright:

Though I did find it assuming when they talked about challenging road surfaces towards the end - and cut back to a track that a Fiat Panda (Probably my BMW  ) could drive down without difficultly.

I am seriously (very seriously) tempted with the Velar over the new Discovery !

I think it is going to be a big hit and success :thumbright:

I've just configured one - started with the base spec with the 3ltr diesel - and came out at £64k.

Funnily enough I've been chatting to Joe about how there is an option on the BMW for recognition of speed limits - and how about they adjust your speed and how it could come in the future................. And noticed that his option is actually available on the Velar and does indeed reduce your speed to the limit. Could be an interesting insurance claim if the brakes suddenly hammered on

Built mine. 87K

Some days I wish I wasn't such a spec and gadget junkie.

Spent last week in one of these, it's a very nice car! I'm not usually taken on first impressions with the latest models, but this looks and feels good. It was the 3l petrol so nice and nippy. The all LCD dash is very clever, and a good step forward, but I do miss a few knobs!
Think it will sell very well, especially against the Evoque as it has more room and vision.
