Gauging Interest: Battery / Winch Systems

Post by rpg » Thu Mar 25, 2010 9:30 am

Just wandering...

I know Gary was looking to put together a group buy on winches a while back on another site
So...where did we get with that?

Here's what I'm thinking...

EXTERNAL WINCH
Non-OEM External Winch Mount approx £360
TDS Goldfish 9.5i winch approx £399
or
TDS Goldfish 12.0i winch approx £429
OPTION: Dynema rope & hawse upgrade approx £125

HIDDEN WINCH
Non-OEM Hidden Winch Mount approx £175
TDS Goldfish 9.5c winch approx £389
or
TDS Goldfish 12.0c winch approx £419
OPTION: Dynema rope & hawse upgrade approx £125

BATTERY SPLIT CHARGE
Optima YTS4.2 approx £165
Traxide SC40LR approx £120
or
Traxide SC80LR approx £145

OPTION: Twin Power Socket Extension approx £58
OPTION: High Current Kit approx £60

The batteries will need a bracket - I'm sure GNVP can come up with something, there! Probably under £5

And training from Nick ;) £ Priceless

These are only best retail prices at the moment. I have asked all suppliers for quantity discounts and am waiting on hearing back, but I'd like to know your combined thoughts...are any of you interested? Do you want something different?

The cheapest package of hidden 9.5 winch, steel wire (standard), SC40 split charge and battery would be around £850. The most expensive 12.0 external dynema winch with SC80, TPSE & HCE would be around £1,350. These seem reasonable.

If required I could ask a certain person about a fitting service?

Not sure if I'll run with it yet...let's see where it goes...

Hidden winch mount £175.00. Are you sure?, is this with VAT?.

ISTR that an RLD version is £275.00

Seems odd that Rays could more more £££ than factory manufactured item.

Good project though and I am interested.

What about fitting?

Rog,

May well be interested in the hidden winch mount and would prefer the 12 rather than the 9.5 (for that price difference, may as well get more power). These come with the steel rope already?

might go for the plasma upgrade, though I'm not sure yet :thumbright:

I already have the Optima + SC80 + FPC

As for the battery Bracket, they're only about a fiver including the bolts from Nick (TLO) so not worth making anything else up as they fittings are already there.

Would be happy to come down if we're planning a group fitting service (that is me copying what someone else is doing  ) Happy with spanners & sparks, but having not done this before specifically, would be grateful of the extra pointers.
Are these Ray's mounts?

Would need extra big cable & crimps/clamps to the winch, perhaps XTC can help there?

The hidden mount isn't RLD nor OEM. I have another source. It includes VAT.

Winch spec's are here....

http://www.dborc.co.uk/goodwinch/pdf/tds%20priced.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

(obviously I'm looking to discount these prices)

Each kit comes with 5' remote handset, heavy duty snatch block, roller fairlead, 90' wire rope, handsaver strap and all required mountings.

The dynema pack replaces the fairlead and wire with an ali hawse and 90' dynema.

The winches have external double-tapered brake to reduce heat buildup in dynema when lowering out.
I should have some pics of the 12.0c in the hidden mount to post, shortly.

Maybe throw in some gloves and a winch sail from Nick for a small extra?

The external mount will most likely be an RLD mount...although I am looking at alternatives.

I know ;) It's your GB I'm basing it on :D Didn't know TLO did the brackets, though.

Looks like the only difference bewteen the 9.5 and the 12, is the gear ratio. The 12 will pull in slower (but more power potential) Physically, the size is the same.

I'd check the prices with Tim (Drivesafe) first as exchange rate has changed since I did it. Also, don't forget, that you are likely to be hit with import duty which was an unpleasant suprise!

There would be more possibility for not getting import duty if they are shipped individually. (luck of the draw really)

Hope this one goes ahead this time! :thumbright:

I am looking for an external winch - decided that hidden is too much of a compromise.

I think the winch that Gary was looking at previously and the price on that was very good. Maybe contact him and see where he was sourcing that.

I think I need the mount (external) and the winch. I would like Dymena but that could come later.

Can you see if you can get a price on external mounting?

Non Stick sorted me out the prices Rog.
Can't reveal source on pain of death but I'm sure if you ask him nicely he'll point you in the right direction.
Hidden winch mount for £175 is rather pukka. I'll dig out the email from TFC Rog and send it to you. Has some good info on there.
I'm interested still, the only reason I pulled out before is that I can't be arsed with doing anything for over there for free when certain other members are raking it in :censored:
Mod (FFS, that's making me laugh), you might want to clean this post before D day :thumbright: [Nah, stand by your words little fella :rasp: ND ]

Need to speak to Gary. Oh, there he is :D David Boyer has given pricing to Nick, already. Nick told me that after I emailed David. Anyway, between us all I'm sure we will sort something out! I have Ray's external mount price, but I am looking at alternatives.

I totally agree re external mounting, Stu...but you know that from discussions on the dark side. Same source on the winches, I believe!?

I'm in the poo at work, today but I'll go through all this later!

Cheers chaps - Thanks Gary and Nick for input on this!

I've already discussed all this a few months back with Iain, so no problem picking up with him re install.

I have got a price from Ray for an external winch mount. It isn't the same as the price he's advertised on the site, but I could see if he would extend the price to others if anyone else wanted one. Not sure if that would be possible though.

Hi all
I’m interested in a winch, but I’m not decided between the hidden and the external winch.
I will keep an eye on this topic to see how it evolutes. :thumbright:
