LED Sidelights Bargain

Post by Bodsy » Mon Nov 15, 2010 11:58 am

Hi All

After last months Midlands Meet & CG's light test, it was really clear that the sidelights on the D3 really spoil the look because of how yellow they look against the Xenons (or HID upgrade lights in CG's case).

So I've negotiated a special one off price for a bulk buy. I'm happy to place the order but need you to commit to giving me the money for them!

The lights actually fit the following areas and provide a lower power, brighter whiter light than the std bulbs.

Exterior
Front Sidelights x2
Number Plate light x2

Interior
Front Footwell lights x2
Front Door Puddle Lights x 2
Rear Door Puddle Lights x 2
Front Overhead lights x3
Rear Overhead lights x3
Rear Map Lights x2 (only for 7 seaters)
Boot interior x 1

There is another I think, but I can't remember where

Because I'm buying these in bulk, the cost for 2 LED lights is a special one off £7.50 for members or £8.00 for non members. If you want them posting to you then that will be in addition (not sure how much they'd cost to post, but they're quite small)

Normally they are £9.99 or £8.99 with some other forum discount. So these are a great price.

I'm personally going to do the front sidelights, the rear number plate and the boot lights. I may do the puddle lights, but perhaps not yet. So I will have 3 sets myself and I've committed to at least 20 sets overall.

There are other cheaper sets around on the bay and elsewhere, but going by feedback on these from people who have bought them is that they are much more reliable that the other cheaper cheapy chinese imports from elsewhere.

These will be supplied by Hids4u as they seem to have the greatest feedback

Please let me know if you would like some and I will order them this week. The aim would be to distribute via the D3 network, but mostly at the Midlands Christmas meet or the Salisbury lanes day on the 4th December.

Please let me know how many sets you would like (if any) before this coming Thursday.

Thanks

Ian

I have some in the side lights of mine - from HIDS4U - and they are good - much better than the old lights - but just as a word of warning, the colour is still different to the zenon's.

One thing to remember when fitting, is that they are polarity dependant. If they don't work, take it out, turn it around and plug it back in again.

They're not 100% match for the xenons, but they're a hell of a lot closer than the std ones  :thumbright:

My 05 SE has 4 puddle lights Ian. It also has lights in each front footwell. The glove box may be the other one you were thinking of.

I've already done my sidelights and numberplate lights with LED mini light towers from UltraLeds and they are as bright as the Xenons. I've also done all of the other interior, footwell and puddle lights with LEDS but didn't go to the expense of using mini light towers for these as the mini light towers are most effective where there's a reflector.

Which ones on the HIDS4U site is the Group Buy for? I couldn't see any on there at £9.99p but accept I could have missed them

Where is the 5 sets option?

I assume a set is a pair?

Also with regards to the boot lights are we talking the one that comes on when you open it or the small side lights that you can switch on and off with a switch.

I think I want side lights, front, middle and rear.

I think led number plate lights look wrong and I don't think they're legal? Sorry Rich I know you have them.

Well done on the deal Bodsy

Don't think replacement LED lamps are legal as replacements for any external filament bulbs? Pretty sure the reflector and lens are type approved for a specific bulb with a filament in a specific spot. A LED bulb is practically random light... Sure someone will tell me it's 8ollocks hopefully! (But it sounds convincing). :shark:
I did get a advisory at the last MOT that my front side and number plate lights 'may' be illegal, but did not fail.

I was thinking the same thing to be honest XTC.

But I don't think the argument for Random Light can be used - a filament bulb is not directional :rasp:

What may be the issue, is that the focal point for the light may be further forward that a filament and therefore the dispersal may be incorrect.

Having said that, the power is so small that it makes not a lot of difference :thumbright:

That's what I meant! Just said it differently..
I'm happy with the side & numberplate ones, as you say, small light so not important. Would think twice about the brakelight & indicator bulbs as this may well alter the approved light patten and insurance companies are always looking for (irrelevant) ways not to pay!
