Gauging Interest: Ally Waffle Boards

Post by Neild » Mon Jun 28, 2010 5:18 pm

Might make a few sets and if there is enough interest I'll get some prices.

Size 1200mm x 300mm using 6mm Ally with 2 folds for extra strength.

I'm think it would be good to get these for under £60 each

Why no 8 mm?

I'd be interested once I have discretionary spending powers again, but can't right now. :thumbright:

With the correct folds I think 6mm will be enough. Also, the thicker material the harder it is to bend and also get a tight bend.

In what circumstance would you only want one waffle board?

Is that 60 quid for a pair or 60 quid each?

Having seen the quality of the kit you and Gary make, then I'd be up for some, but over here you can buy them for 130 euros a pair (1m long) made from duraluminium. (or 70 euros for the equivalent ones in steel).

Also - all of the ones I've seen have used 3 "V" folds - one at each end and one down the middle - using just 2 would leave the edges (or the middle) a bit weak I think.

You haven't mentioned holes?? Both to lighten them a bit and also to give you something to bite into with the tyres.......the holes would need to be punched out and I think they are usually raised/bevelled too.....

I would also make a special hole to tie a line into to help pull them out of the mud/sand when they get buried - most people use the normal holes, but it would be cool to make a special lashing hole for a long rope

Everything you said Paul :thumbright: All in the design that is being costed. Roger mentioned that holes would help to prevent movement of the board - perhaps with a small rope tied to a tree?

Never seen boards for sale as singles. hence my question, and if you have one side then i'd like to point out that you have two wheels on one side

If you only have one wheel stuck then you're not using the D3 very well as the car is capable of detecting that and sending the power to te non stuck wheel. Although you have to let the car know what you want it to do.

Stu, you're wrong.

When laning its highly possible to get a trench down one side of the track and on hilly sections its possible to have a divit or step. This is when one board can come into play.

You will get the front of the car down but the rear will rip the rear bumper off :thumbright:

This works visa versa :thumbright:

But your more than welcome to have 2 :rasp:

So if that's so common how come nobody sells waffle boards as singles?
