I think that's how it's supposed to work Andy but it will only work well if there's a very good Wi-Fi signal in every room that you want to use a mini box.

I'll know more after I've quizzed the installer to death but I believe that the main Q box and the mini boxes are supposed to act as Wi-Fi boosters

There's 4 lnb's on the dish iirc, the signal to the mini boxes is streamed via wifi, hence you can move it from room to room, it's not hard wired.
Everything us cool, except the interface, which looks great but is a royal pita to use.

Think they might need a repeater then for Wifi.

Not a bad install price for 4 days work

They've tried a series of their high powered boosters but there's still insufficient Wi-Fi in the room with the rogue mini box to actually run on Wi-Fi so they've run a 25m cat 5e cable around the outside of the house from the Sky Q box to the rogue mini box so that it connects and completes the loop in the Q mesh. On the mesh diagram, all the links in the mesh show very good connectivity.

Everything is now working well (including playback of recorded HD programs) on the rogue mini box except for live HD TV - mystery :headbang:

Despite all the problems I can't fault the way that the Sky Q guys have been working to get me sorted and I've been given a serious reduction in my monthly charge whilst the Q system isn't running perfectly.

Sounds weird that live HD doesn't work and recorded does, unless the recorded programs are sufficiently compressed to reduce storage requirement and therefore need a lower bandwidth. But on a fixed wired circuit you would assume that it was quite a fast connection.

Keep us updated on the user experience :thumbright:
