Could have been losing gas due to a leak, and sucked air in. Alternatively, the condenser fan may be US. In these ambient temps, a 'high side' or 'HP' reading of 12 bar is easily possible if the fan doesn't cut in.
It'll need a proper test for gas tightness before it can be recharged ...

I did part of that route (Braemar Junction (Corrieshalloch Gorge) to Poolewe and return) a couple of months ago in a works wagon - those Highland roads are 'interesting' in one of these!!

I've seen it personally - galvanised shackle fitted to a stainless eye bolt. In less than 4 months, the shackles were showing significant corrosion where they were in contact with the stainless steel. So much so that I condemned them, especially as they was part of the hand-holds / lifelines around ...

You need to remove the winch from the D3 - put it in the D4. Having first had all the mounting stuff galvanised, etched and painted Orkney Grey. Same deal with fixed towbar. I used the 500N rating when I bought some a couple of years back - these worked just fine, even on a cold day with a ladder fitted.
